This is the left side of this rolling ball sculpture. Dimensions 6'high x 4.5' wide. Large kinetic art! I used the left and right panel only, the back two panels are left empty, and are intended to go against the wall. The handle is turned by hand power to raise the marbles up the lift. They are 2" glass marbles. This side has two tracks in it. One track goes down the series of steps; a hammer head, an ax head, down the marble steps, onto the crab's shell, then down the last 6 steps before reaching the bottom.
The other track is more complicated. This ball run section has 5 "marble exchangers" in a row. A marble exchanger holds onto a ball at all times. When a marble rolls over the track on top of the exchanger, it tips, releasing the marble it was holding, then the marble that rolled over the top, goes around and gets itself caught in the place the first marble sat, so then the next ball can release it. 5 of these in a row means that if you are following a specific marble, it would take 5 more marbles behind your marble before it could go through each marble exchanger in turn. And it is very busy when the handle is turned very fast.
