This little spiral is great for slowing things down. It accomplishes this by letting the marble come in fast and then spin into the guard rail. This takes most of the marbles speed, but it is still going strong. The marble then rolls around and around each complete turn bringing it closer to falling through the middle. But, the marble is going too fast for the narrowly spaced track near the center and is thrown away from the center. The marble then slowly gets going again, this time slowly enough to roll on the tight spiral all the way into the center, this time falling through and rolling on it's way into the tall, tight spiral.
