With its red and green marbles, this little desktop rolling ball sculpture looks like it’s ready for Christmas.

Load the marbles into the queue at the top, press the handle, and let them go. No motor, batteries, or electricity are needed—the entire sculpture runs on gravity and a little help from whoever happens to be standing nearby.

Despite its compact size, there’s plenty packed into the frame. The marbles travel through a flat spiral, activate a tipping arm, and follow long, curving tracks that wind around and through the sculpture before reaching the bottom.

I’ve always liked these manually operated desktop sculptures because they invite you to participate. Load it, release the marbles, watch them run, and then do it again.
