This is a good example of my standard desktop rolling ball sculpture: compact, manually operated, and filled with plenty of movement.

Two tracks take the balls through a loop d’ loop, a horizontal zig-zag, and long, swooping curves that wind through the stainless steel frame.

One of the standout elements is the wooden gravity well. The ball enters the bowl at speed and circles around it, gradually dropping lower with each revolution until it disappears through the center and continues onto the next section of track. The contrast of the wood against the stainless steel also gives this sculpture a different look from most of my work.

This is one of my older pieces and uses 1-inch miniature billiard balls. I eventually moved away from billiard balls in favor of glass marbles, which are easier to keep clean.
