Wall Mounted Rolling Ball Sculpture #341
This wall-mounted rolling ball sculpture has four separate tracks, plenty of movement and a nice rhythm as the marbles make their way through the different elements. The automatic chain lift continuously returns them to the top, and the speed control lets you set the pace anywhere from slow and relaxing to fast and busy. Set it where you like it, then sit back and watch it run.
This one is also designed to make installation easy. A built-in leveling system means there is no bubble level or guessing required to get the sculpture sitting correctly on the wall. The mounting points are 32 inches apart to match standard wall-stud spacing, although at only 18 pounds, mounting directly into studs isn't necessary in most locations when appropriate wall anchors are used.
Three track splitters divide the marbles among four different paths. One of my favorite sections is the loop-d-loop, which begins with traditional inversions and gradually changes orientation until the loops are running sideways.
Two tall skinny spirals, a vertical zig-zag, large track dips and sections of wavy track add plenty of variety. There are also two different tipping arms. One is a traditional tipping arm, while the ball-collecting version can be adjusted to release after collecting one, two or three marbles—you choose how you want it to run.
Another path sends a marble into the "Marbles on Track" element, where its arrival sets the waiting marbles into motion. A horizontal zig-zag adds another long section of back-and-forth movement before the tracks begin finding their way toward the bottom.
Eventually all four paths empty onto the large collector plate, where the marbles mix together and merge back into a single track leading to the chain lift.
Four tracks, lots of different mechanisms, adjustable speed, and everything contained in a wall-mounted sculpture that takes up no floor or tabletop space.
Made from 100% stainless steel and TIG welded.
