This large interactive ball run was built as part of a neuroscience exhibit, with most of the track suspended high above the booth. Rather than simply being something to watch, the sculpture gave visitors a way to participate and see why other people had chosen to enter the field of neuroscience.

Visitors started by choosing a colored ball, with each color representing a different reason for entering the field. They placed their ball onto the track, where it dropped through the cabinet below before being picked up by the lift.

From there, the ball traveled 13 feet into the air to reach the overhead portion of the sculpture. Once at the top, it began a long trip around the entire booth on approximately 110 feet of suspended track.

At the end of its journey, the ball dropped into a large clear brain, joining all of the balls placed there by previous visitors. As the exhibit continued, the brain gradually filled with different colors, creating a simple visual representation of the reasons people chose neuroscience.

One person, one ball, one trip around the booth—and eventually hundreds of individual choices collected together inside one very colorful brain.
