Near Miss is a tall, narrow rolling ball sculpture built inside a glass display case. At 32 inches tall with a footprint of only 16 by 16 inches, it packs plenty of movement into a small amount of floor or display space.

A motorized helical lift quietly carries the colorful 1" glass marbles to the top, where they take two different paths through the sculpture before eventually finding their way back to the lift. Plug it in, add the marbles and let it run.

The glass case is more than just part of the presentation. It keeps curious fingers away from the moving tracks, keeps the marbles from wandering off in someone's pocket, and noticeably reduces the sound of the sculpture while it's operating. That makes Near Miss especially well suited for a gallery, office, lobby or other public space where you want plenty of movement without much noise.

The tall glass enclosure also gives the piece a completely different presence from an open-frame sculpture. It becomes its own little kinetic world—colorful marbles continuously climbing, rolling and changing paths behind the glass.
